Entry requirements for DANKie² Senior:

Only Afrikaans second language high school learners in Grades 10, 11 or 12 are eligible to participate. Learners must have their own individual email addresses to participate. Schools must provide learners adequate internet facilities to access the online Olympiad on the day. The Olympiad can be accessed via cell phones, tablets, laptops, and PC’s.

Entry requirements for DANKie² Junior:
Same as above except learners must be in Grades 8 and 9.

Payments are organised and made through schools. Schools pay a R80 registration fee per Olympiad, and each participating learner pays R60. There are no refunds.

To Express Interest in participating please apply here: https://dankie.org.za

Why participate:

Inspires learners by stimulating their interest in Afrikaans, tests their Afrikaans second language knowledge in a fun way, learners have the opportunity to receive recognition for their achievements, and it is a learning opportunity as we adhere to the learning from assessment principle.

How it works:

Round 1: Schools pay for and pre-register learners. This is an online competition, undertaken at schools’ premises (or at home in the case of lockdowns), between 7am and 5pm under exam conditions.

There are 40 multiple choice questions, each with graphics/data. All learners are awarded an official electronic certificate in the following categories: Participation, Bronze (top 15%), Silver (top 10%), Gold (top 5%), and Platinum (top 1%).

Round 2: to be announced.
